FIXO — FIXO Internet eXchange Oslo — is Norway’s alternative Internet exchange point, providing high-speed interconnections between ISPs. FIXO was established because there was a need for an alternative exchange point in Norway, and it is built on a simple belief: good peering should be available for all networks. FIXO is supported around the clock by Blix Solutions AS.
Why join an Internet exchange?
ISPs normally use a transit provider to exchange traffic — and pay for the volume. Peering is when two networks agree to exchange traffic directly, settlement-free, reducing transit cost and improving performance. An Internet exchange makes this practical: connect once, and set up peering sessions with any of the other members.
FIXO defines an ISP as a network with its own valid ASN (Autonomous System Number) and a globally routable IP prefix.
